Moreton Bay United FC’s Wolter Park home ground is set to be bigger and brighter in 2015 after the club secured a major funding boost.

The PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland club and community club Albany Creek Excelsior, who share the Wolter Park facility, have confirmed a grant of $100,000 has been received courtesy of the Queensland Government’s Get Playing program.

The funding will enable the club to upgrade the current lighting in addition to extending the size of the pitch, currently one of the smallest in the league.

Steve Dickson, the State Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing and State Member for Everton Tim Mander travelled to Wolter Park to deliver the good news.

Two days later Moreton Bay Regional Council announced it would contribute another $44,000 towards the $173,000 project.

Les Moodley, General Manager of Moreton Bay United and Albany Creek Excelsior, said the plan was to have the works completed by April.

“We are delighted to receive the $100,000 Get Playing grant and thank the Queensland Government and Moreton Bay Regional Council for supporting children in the Moreton Bay region to play sport, in particular football,” he said.

“The installation of new 200 lux lighting will enable our clubs to meet the standards of the Brisbane Premier League and host the NPL Queensland competition.”

“The extension of the field will give more competition and training fields for women and men’s teams and for us to possibly host A-League friendly games.”

State MP Mander said, “I’ve been working closely with both clubs and I’m glad to see all their hard work pay off.”

“The Get Going and Get Playing funding programs give local clubs in my electorate, such as Moreton Bay United and Albany Creek Excelsior, the opportunity to deliver on projects that will make a difference to local communities.”
