Defender Matt Byrne is the latest Olympic FC player to commit for the 2015 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season.

Byrne made a big impression in his first full season at the club this year as he cemented a place in central defence, having returned from Serbia midway through 2013 as a more regular right-back.

The 22-year-old’s performances in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland have earned him a nomination for the Supporters’ Team of the Year, while he also helped the club to a famous 3-1 win over Melbourne Knights in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

Byrne, a former Brisbane Roar youth team player, tasted top-flight professional football in 2012 with Serbian SuperLiga side Donji Srem and spent time on loan with FK Teleoptik before returning to his hometown.

The announcement means much of Olympic’s defence remains intact for next season, having already confirmed the signatures of Matt Mundy, Darren Crack, Mark Fisk, Darren Gray and ‘keeper Brandon Cuminao.
