The Supporters’ Team of the Year competition is your chance to reward those PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland players that have shown outstanding skill, leadership and entertainment value over the course of the 2014 season.
Only players nominated by the senior head coaches at the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland clubs are eligible for selection. However, the choice of the final eleven players is entirely up to you – the supporters.
To assist with selecting your Supporters’ Team of the Year, we profile those players nominated for the highly-prized strikers spot.
Royce Brownlie (Moreton Bay United FC)
"Captain Fantastic" for Jets this season, Brownlie had the best goal scoring return of his career – at the age of 34. Few defences contained the former Hyundai A-League and National Soccer League star, who showed his prowess from distance, close range, in the air and from the penalty spot. He finished the season with a remarkable 34 goals in 24 appearances and played every minute of Jets’ season.
Chris Lucas (Palm Beach SC)
The former Gold Coast United youth player terrorised defences across the state this year with a blistering return of 35 goals in the regular season and finals campaign combined. The 22-year-old's sharp turn of pace and composed finishing grab the headlines as his club won the Premiership and Championship double, however Lucas' defensive work proved just as crucial as he battled tirelessly to win back possession for his side.
Matt Thurtell (Brisbane Strikers)
Thurtell produced a stellar return from a serious knee injury this season, leading the line for the Brisbane Strikers with distinction and scoring 19 NPL Queensland goals at almost a goal a game. His stunning array of finishes ranged from deft lobs to acrobatic headers and everything in between. Thurtell's work ethic also shone through, leading from the front in defence and ensuring no opposition defender could get comfortable with the ball at their feet.
