New Brisbane Strikers head coach Kevin A’Herne-Evans has hit the ground running, re-signing Player of the Year Greg King for the 2015 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season.

King, 27, was named Strikers’ Player of the Year for a second time in September after captaining the club for much of 2014 in the absence of Jonti Richter.

A’Herne-Evans, who last week replaced the outgoing Chay Hews, identified King as a key re-signing for his first season in charge.

“We’re delighted to have secured Greg King’s services for the 2015 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season,” A’Herne-Evans said.

“Kenny Armstrong, myself and the whole coaching group are delighted and extremely excited to be working with him next year.”

Having admired the 27-year-old from afar in recent seasons as Sunshine Coast Fire boss, A’Herne-Evans praised the growth of King into a versatile leader.

“I’ve always respected Greg as a player, his professionalism and influence on games are of the highest level,” he said.

“Over the years I’ve witnessed Greg play in a number of positions other than his favoured attacking role which shows great maturity and understanding of the game.

“He’s a terrific club man and role model for younger members of the senior squad.”

King helped his side to a top-four finish in 2014 alongside a Canale Travel Cup triumph and Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 appearance.

The speedy-left sided player believes those efforts promise a bright future for Brisbane Strikers.

“With the season we had this year there’s plenty to build upon,” King said.

“With the playing group we’ve got, and some guys we’re looking at bringing in, I think we’re only going to improve and that’s something I want to be a part of”.

King has made 72 appearances for the club since joining in 2012 and said the exciting times ahead made re-signing an easy call to make.

“It was a pretty straight forward decision,” he said.

“There was never really any thought about going anywhere else.

“I’d like to stay with the Strikers for as long as they’re willing to have me, really.”
