PS4 NPL Finals Series Wrap

Words: Michael Flynn

Palm Beach Sharks were one of four clubs to progress to the next round of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Finals Series on Saturday.

Joining the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Champions in the next round were Bonnyrigg White Eagles (New South Wales), South Melbourne (Victoria) and MetroStars (South Australia).

Sharks came from a goal down to defeat Northern New South Wales Football’s Weston Workers Bears at Rockwell Automation Park.

Chris Lucas levelled terms from the penalty spot early in the second half before Jarrod Kyle sealed the win in the 73rd minute.

Sharks will face Bonnyrigg White Eagles in the next round after the Sydney club also came from a goal down to ultimately ease past Capital Football representatives Cooma Tigers 6-1 at AIS Athletics Track in Canberra.

Dylan Fox, Nikola Zonjic, Tynan Diaz and  Alexander Doyle added to Arron Peterson’s brace for the visitors in the commanding display.

Jordan Lando opened the scoring for Cooma ten minutes into the match, however the class of the New South Wales Champions was evident as they knocked in five second half goals.

In the first match of the day South Melbourne held out a spirited South Hobart side to prevail 1-0 at Darcy Street in Hobart.

Striker Jamie Reed struck the winning goal six minutes into the contest with a spectacular bicycle kick for the former National Soccer League club.

The Victorian Premiers will face MetroStars in the next round after the Adelaide club defeated Football West representatives Bayswater City on penalties at Frank Drago Reserve in Perth.

MetroStars failed to make the most of a numerical advantage after former Melbourne Heart, Perth Glory and Sydney FC midfielder Jamie Coyne was sent off early in the contest.

The sides were locked nil-all after extra time before goalkeeper Daniel Godley proved the hero for MetroStars in the tense shoot-out.
