Moreton Bay United have announced that leading goalscorer Royce Brownlie has re-signed with the club for the 2015 NPL Queensland season.

Brownlie, who scored 34 goals in 26 games this year, agreed to a new playing contract this week, within days of the Jets' final round loss to Brisbane Strikers.

The former National Soccer League and Hyundai A-League striker, now 34, said his decision was heavily influenced by the quality of the NPL Queensland competition.

He explained he was tempted to follow departing head coach Terry Kirkham to nearby community club Peninsula Power, before opting to remain with Jets.

“A good friend and good coach (Terry Kirkham) has gone to a rival club and to be honest it came down to BPL or NPL?” explained Brownlie.

“I want to play in the best league for as long as I can - and do as well as I can. It pretty much came down to that.”

“This is a good, family club - so here I stay,” Brownlie added.

Jets Chairman Claude Sorbello expressed his delight at ensuring the club’s star striker returns in yellow-and-black next season.

“Royce has been magnificent over the past two seasons, leading by example on and off the pitch. He represents the culture we are developing at the club,” Sorbello said.

“Scoring 50 goals in 46 games over two seasons is a fantastic return and his commitment to Moreton Bay United is a huge boost as we prepare for next season, where (we) will be out to make the top four.”

Moreton Bay United expects further player signings to follow soon, as well as the appointment of a new head coach.
