Moreton Bay United edged closer to securing a NPL Queensland Finals berth with a clinical 7-0 demolition over South West Queensland Thunder in Laidley on Saturday.

The front three for Jets scored all of the goals with Royce Brownlie netting a hat trick and Charles Mendy and James Fairgrieve both securing a brace.

The match started evenly, with both sides creating a number of early scoring chances before Jets winger Fairgrieve pounced on a loose clearance from Thunder goalkeeper Jace Hudson from a 22nd minute Jets corner.

Jets doubled their advantage just three minutes later from another corner in almost identical fashion with Charles Mendy this time being in the right place.

Thunder returned fire from the restart when a solo run from Ryan Ensor led to Daniel Fuller’s attempt being deflected wide of the goal.

Minutes later Thunder saw another chance denied when attacking midfielder Tom Fanning forced a fingertip save from Jets goalkeeper Borean.

Jets added to their lead ten minutes into the second half after Brownlie was brought down in the penalty area by Thunder right back Alex Eelkema, enabling the experienced striker to convert from the ensuing spot kick.

The visitors dominated the remainder of the contest, with Mendy netting his second on 69 minutes by firing through a crowded penalty area after solid lead-up work from Brownlie.

Hudson spilled Mendy’s 75th minute strike into the path of Brownlie, allowing the experienced striker the simplest of tap-ins.

Brownlie sealed his hat trick with an 85th minute goal to extend his season's tally to 32 goals and return to the top of the NPL Queensland Golden Boot chart.

and Fairgrieve collected his brace with a clinical finish in the final minute of injury time.

Jets third straight win sees them return to third in the NPL Queensland standings, while Thunder remain without a competition point at the foot of the ladder.
