Sunshine Coast Fire defender Brock Messenger has been named in the New Zealand Under 20’s squad for a four-team tournament in Qatar starting next month.

The Junior All Whites will play against Chile, Morocco and Qatar at the event in Doha which will serve as preparation for next year’s FIFA Under 20 World Cup to be hosted in New Zealand.

Messenger, 18, has made 18 appearances for the Fire senior team this season, scoring his lone goal against Redlands United in April.

He was part of the Junior All Whites tour to China earlier this year that saw the side record a 0-0 draw with international football powerhouse Brazil.

He will be joined in the squad by interstate National Premier Leagues players Tomislav Trbuhovic (Whittlesea Ranges) and Spiros Agathos (Sydney United 58).

The Under 20’s will be in camp in the Qatari capital with the New Zealand senior representative side, who will be preparing for their own international match against Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

The tournament will take place from the 2nd to the 9th of September.
