Pride Snap Losing Streak Against Fury

Two goals in the final ten minutes has guided Western Pride to a dramatic 2-0 win over Northern Fury at Townsville Sports Reserve on Sunday.

Chris Scott and Peter Drager delivered the quick fire one-two in the final stages to secure Pride their first win since early May and end a seven game losing streak for the Ipswich club.

The tight contest looked set for a scoreless draw, with Fury failing to capitalise on the bulk of possession throughout the match.

The hosts came close in the opening ten minutes as stand-in captain Ari Isman combined with Braedyn Crowley only for Fury’s leading goal scorer to hit the side netting.

Fury were continually frustrated by the offside flag through the rest of the half, while Pride also failed to create genuine chances in the final third.

The match opened up more in the second stanza as Crowley threatened from an early free-kick for the hosts and Will Jordan drew a sharp save from Fury goalkeeper Matthew Symes.

A more buoyant Pride saw their claims of a penalty turned down shortly after the hour mark but continued to put Fury under pressure entering the final ten minutes.

Crowley spurned a chance prior to Prides match-defining scoring burst when he turned and shot over the crossbar in the 82nd minute.

Two minutes later, Scott made the breakthrough when his cross-cum-shot from the byline was parried into the goal by Symes.

A defensive lapse from Guy Bimrose a minute later then allowed Jordan to tee up Drager to seal the points for the visitors.

The result extends a difficult run for Fury, who have taken just four points from their past ten fixtures and are without a home win since March.

The Townsville club sits in eleventh position still eight points ahead of Pride, with both clubs now out of finals contention.

Northern Fury 0
Western Pride 2 (Chris SCOTT 84’, Peter DRAGER 85’)
