FQPL Round nine review: Peninsula Power forward
Round nine of the FQPL served up a mixed bag for football fans. Majority of games were decided by the narrowest of margins, with a few others proving to be an attacking fans dream.
While some results weren't surprising, a few teams played above their position on the ladder, keeping the league's top teams on their toes.

Peninsula Power | 4 - 3 | Souths United
AJ Kelly Park
90th Minute Strike gets Power out of close clash.
A strong second half has helped Peninsula Power come from behind to take all three points against Souths United. Souths almost stole points from the clash at AJ Kelly Park, which has seemingly been an impossible task this season. Nevertheless, Souths went into the half time break leading 2-1, with two quick goals right before the break.
However, an early second half goal to Power’s captain Trent McEvoy leveled the score, before Thomas Strickland added his second goal for the night to take Peninsula ahead. Ten minutes later, Souths were able to find an equalizer in Andrew Butler.
In an exciting finish to an already thrilling game, Peninsula proved their power, as Ramone Close found the back of the net in the 92nd minute. This gave the ladder leader’s their third second half goal, and allowed the Power’s perfect record to stay intact.
Wolves FC | 1 – 0 | Southside Eagles

Wolves find second win in as many games
Aleksa Krkeljas provided the only goal of a tightly contested game, helping Wolves FC to enjoy their first winning streak of the season. After suffering five straight losses, the yellow and black from Tingalpa will be enjoying their time in the winners’ circle for the second week in a row.
Southside Eagles were unable to break through the Wolves FC defence, which seemed to frustrate the visiting team. Six yellow cards were issued to Eagles players, with two of those occurring just before the full time whistle. The Eagles will turn their attention to their round 10 clash against Rochedale Rovers.
Logan Lightning | 1 – 0 | Capalaba Bulldogs

Top four clash a tight contest
In another game separated by one goal, Logan Lightning defeated Capalaba Bulldogs on home soil on Saturday night. Zander Guy produced his fourth goal of his campaign in the 25th minute, to help his Logan side over the line.
This result allows Logan Lightning to overtake the Bulldogs on the competition ladder, now sitting one point in-front of their round nine opponents. The Bulldogs now sit in fourth, only one win in front of the fifth place Rochedale Rovers.
Eastern Suburbs | 7 – 2 | Holland Park Hawks

Shol bags four in big win
Eastern Suburbs found their goal scoring form not for the first time this season, as they were able to put seven goals past Holland Park on the weekend. Eastern Suburbs dominated possession for the majority of the game, with the Hawks having no answers for the home side’s attacking prowess, especially after half time.
Youeil Shol scored four goals in the second half, taking the game away from the Hawks after only having a 2-1 lead at half time. The Hawks showed resistance through their captain Marek Madle, who capitalised on two defensive errors to find the back of the net. This was the fifth game of the season that Madle has scored two or more goals, taking his overall tally to 14.
This result sees the Tigers grab their third win in four games, and puts them five points outside the top four.
Mitchelton FC | 5 – 0 | Wide Bay Buccaneers
Teralba Park
Wide Bay unsuccessful at Terabla
Wide Bay Buccaneers were unable to return home with points after they suffered a 5-0 loss at the hands of Mitchelton FC. The Buccs fought well until the 63rd minute however, as Mitchelton only had a one goal advantage thanks to a Jordan Dozzi strike in the 2nd minute.
The Mustangs of Mitchelton ended up sharing the goal scoring workload, as five different players got their name on the scoresheet. The result provided Mitchelton with their second win of the season, while Wide Bay continue to search for their first points in the history of the fledgling club.
Sunshine Coast Wanderers | 0 - 0 | Ipswich Knights
Ballinger Park
No goals on Sunday
The points were shared on Sunday afternoon when the Ipswich Knights travelled to Ballinger Park on the Sunshine Coast to face the high-flying Wanderers. Both sides’ defences were on-guard, as neither side could find the back of the net.
The second half provided the best chances of the game, with keepers forced to make desperate saves to keep their clean sheets. Both sides will hope to replicate their defensive efforts in their round ten games, but they will need to work on their attacking efforts.
The Wanderers maintain their positon in second place, with Peninsula’s lead on the ladder now extending to ten competition points. Ipswich Knights sit towards the bottom end of a mid-table pack that refuses to widen.
Rochedale Rovers | BYE
The Rovers had the bye in Round nine and will use the rest to look forward to their round 10 battle with Southside Eagles.
