The Gap FC will get the chance to defend their 2015 and 2016 PS4 NPLW Queensland title after eliminating Souths United from the finals series with a 2-0 win on Saturday night.

Souths were one of only two sides to have beaten The Gap this season, but the home side got the job done on their own turf with goals in either half seeing them through to next weekend’s decider.

They will now face either undefeated Peninsula Power or University of Queensland, who they are yet to concede against this season.

The home side started strongly but Souths worked their way back into the contest with neither side appearing willing to take a risk in attack.

Souths had the best chances of the opening half-hour but it was The Gap who went in front on 31 minutes through Great Bodey who regathered from a poor first touch to place the ball into the bottom left corner.

It was then the home side’s turn to create chances with Talitha Doro getting involved.

Souths looked dangerous from attacking set pieces but were unable to find an equaliser and were made to pay when Kaitlyn Winter sealed the result on the cusp of stoppage time from close range.

Key Moments

19’ – CHANCE FOR SOUTHS – The visitors take a slightly optimistic shot from a tight angle, which has decent shape, but misses.

24’ – CHANCE FOR SOUTHS – The first corner of the match is struck well and just clears the initial pack before falling to Rosie Sutton in a dangerous spot but she makes poor contact on her shot.

30’ – GOAL FOR THE GAP – The Gators open the scoring through Greta Bodey. Her first touch off Megan Price's cross isn’t great, but she more than makes amends by pulling it across her body and into the bottom left corner.

37’ – CHANCE FOR SOUTHS – The away side get another chance from a set play. This time an attempted chip shot has too much weight on it and it flies over the bar.

57’ – CHANCE FOR THE GAP – Charli McIennan makes a run down the left hand side and crosses to Talitha Doro, but great pressure from the Souths defender forces a corner.

65’ – CHANCE FOR THE GAP – Bodey puts a great though ball to Doro who strike it low and hard but Chloe Cole makes the save.

86’ – CHANCE FOR THE GAP – Megan Price shoots from distance but it sails narrowly over the bar.

89’ – GOAL FOR THE GAP – Kaitlyn Winter seals the game for the home side. Bodey puts a cross in which isn’t quite collected by Cole before The Gap win the ball back legally before Winter converts.
