FNQ FC Heat will take three points back to North Queensland with them after seeing off Sunshine Coast FC 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Jamie Carroll and Kasper Holmbech were enough to secure the Heat’s ninth win of the season whilst consigning the Fire to their 19th defeat of the season.

Both sides will finish in the current positions with only a game to play – the Heat will finish seventh while the Fire have long known that they will finish in 12th.

The visitors couldn’t have hoped for a better start than the one handed to them when Jamie Carroll capitalised on a mistake at the back to open the scoring inside the first minute.

The Heat then went on to dominate opportunities to no avail. It wasn’t until deep into the second half that they opened up some breathing space when Holmbech latched onto a long through ball and converted from close range to double the visitors’ lead.

The Fire’s first real chance came in the 74th minute as Jez Lofthouse’s corner was cleared off the line.

That was as close as the home side came to scoring in their final home game of the season with a final round clash away to Brisbane City.

Key Moments

47’ – CHANCE FOR HEAT – Jack Glover latches onto a corner but his shot from an acute angle is cleared off the line by Tom Land.

51’ – CHANCE FOR HEAT – From a corner, William Beverley’s header from close range goes across the face of goal.
