Souths United have managed to get the better of Eastern Suburbs during a fiery exchange at Wakerley Park.

All that separated the two sides was a dazzling moment of play which saw Elise Franco on the end of a well-timed cross, who then placed the ball past the keeper.

Organisation and playing to their strengths were the attributing factors according to Souths coach Gary French who never believed that the opposition was out of the game.

Souths have another home game at Waverly Park next weekend where they will look to tackle Peninsula Power, while Easts will front-up against The Gap at Heath Park.

Key Moments

32’ - GOAL TO SOUTHS - DEEANNA THOMPSON (10) swiftly crossed the ball to ELISE FRANCO (11) who received the ball on the fringe of the 18-yard box and strategically placed the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. EMMA GIBBON (1) was unsuspecting of the placement and was unable to see the ball through the wall of defence.

46’ - YELLOW CARD FOR EASTS - TEGAN RIDING (20) was penalised for dissent by word and/or action.

66’ - YELLOW CARD FOR EASTS - AQUA MEANIE (26) was penalised for showcasing unsportsmanlike behaviour.

69’ - YELLOW CARD FOR EASTS - HARKANA DIXON (6) was penalised for delaying the restart of play.

77’ - SAVE BY SOUTHS - Easts effectively broke down the Souths defence, catching them off guard and making a break. CHLOE COLE (1) vigilantly came off her line and pressured. She deflected the ball but it was immediately struck toward the empty goal, leaving everyone on the edge of their seat as it bobbled and teemed in the 6-yard box. However, ELOISE FRYER (4) sprinted to the goal line and skied it from danger.

84’ - SAVE BY EASTS - ROSIE SUTTON (12) skimmed past the Easts defence line and penetrated the right-hand side of the 18-yard box, she slammed the ball to the bottom right-hand corner, however EMMA GIBBON (1) dove and deflected the strike with apt skill and calm swiftness.

90’ - RED CARD FOR EASTS - HARKANA DIXON (6) was penalised, and given her second yellow card for dissent by word and/or action posterior to the full-time whistle.
