A hat-trick from Mariel Hecher has led UQ Women to a resounding 6-0 victory over SWQ Thunder in Toowoomba on Saturday afternoon.

The result keeps UQ in touch with the league’s top five, while the Thunder fall away with the margin heavily damaging their goal difference.

It wasn’t until late in the first half when the visitors took the lead through Hecher following a scramble in the box.

She managed to score again in the dying stages of the opening period but Mikaela Disavia was the beneficiary of early second-half pressure, extending UQ’s lead to three less than a minute after the restart.

The second half belonged entirely to the away side. Disavia polished off a brace on 65 minutes before Hecher completed her hat-trick 11 minutes later to put the result well beyond doubt.

Elizabeth Schiavo got in on the action from the penalty spot in the last 10 minutes, finishing off a big win for her side in the context of the season.

The Thunder remain at home for another round and face The Gap next Saturday while UQ stay on the road, travelling south to take on Gold Coast City on Sunday.

38’ – GOAL FOR UQ – A scramble for the ball in the box finds its way to Mariel Hecher unguarded open in the middle of the box, and while the keeper manages to get something on it, the strike still goes into the back of the net.

46’ – GOAL FOR UQ – Early pressure opens up the Thunder defence and a cross from the left is played into the net by Disavia.

65’ – GOAL FOR UQ – The ball is pushed forward and Disavia beats Hollitt to the ball before chipping the ball home from the edge of the box.

76’ – GOAL FOR UQ – Hecher beats a defender before shooting from just inside the box and slotting the ball into the top right corner.
