Gold Coast City maintained their lead atop the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland ladder with a 2-1 win over Western Pride on Saturday night.

Sam Smith scored his eighth goal of the season to cancel out Adam Endean's opener before Rhys Saunders headed in a corner to take all three points for City.

Pride held the lead for over half an hour, but City have been tough to hold down over recent weeks. This win was City's fifth in a row as they keep their distance above the trailing pack.

Pride can point towards the opener as reason for optimism, but two goals conceded from corners will guarantee plenty of set piece training this week.

City will be at home to Moreton Bay United next Saturday night, while Pride will make the trek up to face Northern Fury, also on Saturday night.

Key Moments

8’ - CHANCE FOR GCC - Benjamin Lyvidikos flashes a shot just past the outside of the post.

14’ - CHANCE FOR GCC - Hofmann's header flicks off a Pride head and onto the crossbar.

24’ - GOAL FOR PRIDE - Adam Endean reacts fastest to smash a rebound home.

59’ - GOAL FOR GCC - Pride struggle to deal with a corner, allowing Sam Smith to thunder a header past Max Davison.

83’ - GOAL FOR GCC - Rhys Saunders has a clear run to attack a corner and heads into the net with Davison already committed.

85’ - CHANCE FOR PRIDE - Dylan Wenzel-Halls nearly steals a point for the hosts but his shot smacks the upright.
