SWQ Thunder have recorded their maiden victory for season 2017, with a 2-1 home win over Western Pride on Saturday afternoon.

The result ends a streak of four consecutive defeats for the Thunder, who leap off the foot of the table, while the Pride languish in eighth.

Chances were hard to come by in the first half, but the Thunder opened the scoring just minutes after the break through Matt Williams.

The lead was short-lived however, as Adam Endean soon restored parity for the visitors, setting up a granstand ending.

With just three minutes of regular time remaining, the Thunder were awarded a penalty. Thomas Fanning's original spot kick was saved, but he converted on the follow up to hand the Thunder the lead.

The Pride believed they had secured a late point as the ball ended up in the back of the net from a set piece, but it was disallowed for offisde.

The Thunder now face an away date with Moreton Bay United, while the Pride have the daunting task of Gold Coast City next round.
