Brisbane Roar Youth will open the Foxtel National Youth League 2016/17 season against Melbourne Victory Youth at Corporate Travel Management Stadium.

The fixtures for the season were announced today by Football Federation Australia and completes a triumvirate of season openers for Roar – with the club also playing the opening matches of the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League seasons.

Young Roar will play their opening home fixture at Newmarket's Corporate Travel Management Stadium (home of PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland club Brisbane City)

They will then play their remaining three home fixtures at Kippa-Ring’s A.J. Kelly Field (home ground of Peninsula Power).

The team will be guided for the first time by recently appointed coach James Robinson, with his squad to be officially announced at half-time of this weekend's Hyundai A-League match at Suncorp Stadium against Perth Glory.

The Foxtel National Youth League will continue Young Roar’s year-round fixture schedule and lead in to the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues 2017 campaign.

Following on from last season’s revamped format, the Foxtel National Youth League will once again see the ten clubs divided into two conferences.

Young Roar will feature in Conference A alongside Adelaide United Youth, Melbourne City Youth, Perth Glory Youth and Victory Youth – the same make-up as Conference A last season.

Young Roar finished second in Conference A last year, just three points short of qualifying for the competition’s Grand Final.

FFA’s Head of Hyundai A-League, Greg O’Rourke, is looking forward to the upcoming season.

“The Foxtel National Youth League has proved itself as the perfect breeding ground for future Hyundai A-League players,” said O’Rourke.

“Stemming from the rich pool of talent within the PS4 National Premier League competitions around Australia, the Foxtel National Youth League competition then provides additional development for our country’s best Under 20 players.

“It is very encouraging to see that over the past four seasons 77 players from the Foxtel National Youth League have gone on to sign Hyundai A-League contracts.

“We are looking forward to another successful Foxtel National Youth League season which will once again showcase the best young footballers in Australia,” concluded O’Rourke.
