Redlands United FC Women secured their first point of 2016 as they ended their season with a 0-0 draw against University of Queensland Women at University of Queensland Field 3.

Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the rescheduled fixture as the goalkeepers held sway for over the course of the ninety minutes.

Redlands custodian Jessica Anderson proved the star for the visitors - delivering a crucial penalty save with fifteen minutes remaining to ensure her side’s first ever clean sheet in the competition.

The draw breaks a run of 19 straight defeats for the bottom-placed Redlands in a disappointing return from their maiden PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women’s campaign.

UQFC finish the season in ninth place – a significant drop on last year’s fourth-placed finish -  behind Western Pride Women on goal difference.

What They Said

“I think we were a little disappointed with where we finished off, but it’s hard when we’ve lost eight players across the course of the year and having to scratch teams together in the second half of the season. But I’m happy with how the girls have stuck together and pushed through to the end of the year. We’ll review the season and put a plan in place for next year. It’s about recruitment and getting the best players into the club that we can.“ – Rick Coghlin, University of Queensland FC Women coach
