Gold Coast City posted a third consecutive clean sheet – and move five points shy of the league-leaders - as they overran Northern Fury 4-0 at Duncan McKenna Field.

Benjamin Litfin struck twice in each half for the hosts to add to a penalty from Roman Hoffman and late strike from Benjamin Lyvidkos to secure City’s second win over Fury this season.

The result secures City’s hold on third place in the standings and sees them now within striking distance of first-placed FNQ Heat with just five matches remaining in the regular season.

For Fury, the defeat continues a horror campaign that now sees them without a win in 17 outings and mired to the foot of the table.

Key Moments

10' - CHANCE FOR CITY - Daniel Dragicevic pokes just wide after being picked out at the back post

63' - GOAL FOR CITY - Lyvidikos is brought down inside the box and Roman Hofmann duly converts from the spot

74' - GOAL FOR CITY - Lyvidikos sees his shot saved but Rhys Saunders picks up the rebound and cuts back for Litfin to finish

80' - GOAL FOR CITY - Smart interchange down the left-hand wing ends with substitute Jordon Lampard stabbing home from close range

What They Said

"Mentally the boys had to be tough and we just played strong the whole game. We've had three clean sheets in a row and three wins so we build our foundations on a solid defence. Going into the break we can refresh and regroup and crack on again." - Kristian Rees, Gold Coast City FC assistant coach

"We lost a couple of players from last week and we had a game plan of keeping the ball and working off the ‘number 9’. We tried that and did pretty well for the first 45 but then we came out a bit sloppy (in the second half). We're trying to enjoy it as much as we can but things aren't going our way." - Jonathon Bagley, Northern Fury FC player
