A three goal first half blitz set the platform as Sunshine Coast FC upset the in-form Brisbane Roar Youth 4-0 at Cleveland Showgrounds.

Fire midfielder Jordan Loy stunned Young Roar with a quick-fire brace inside the opening ten minutes, before Jeremy Stewart extended the margin further just before the quarter hour.

A more even contest ensued for the remainder of the half before Connor Hancock’s struck just two minutes after the restart to wrap up Fire’s first league double of the season.

Fire’s second straight win sees them become the first side to defeat Young Roar on their home turf this season and lifts the club to eighth on the table.

For Young Roar, the result marks the end of a four match winning streak and the second time they have been kept scoreless by Fire this year.

Key Moments

4’ – GOAL FOR FIRE – Jordan Loy drills a low shot through a sea of legs from outside the penalty area and the ball nestles into the bottom of the left corner

7’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR – Daniel Leck looks to curl a left-footed effort into the near post from the edge of the penalty area but his shot fads wide of the upright

9’ – GOAL FOR FIRE – Loy puts his foot through the ball from outside 25 yards and it flies into the top right corner of the goal

13’ – GOAL FOR FIRE – Shoichi Koshimizu crosses in from the byline for Jeremy Stewart to tap in at close range

44’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR – Fire goalkeeper Samuel Nickolls clearance is collected by Leck, who looks to loop home a long range effort but Grant De Chastel is on hand to head the shot clear off the line

47’ – GOAL FOR FIRE – Fire bring the ball near the byline amidst a crowded penalty area before being lobbed into Connor Hancock to head home at close range

58’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR – Jesse Daley looks to bridge the gap with a free-kick that beats the wall but is collected by Nickolls

69’ – CHANCE FOR YOUNG ROAR – Hayden McHenery slices a cross-cum-shot that briefly seems to threaten the Fire goal but it flashes across the face

What They Said

“We didn’t turn up for the first fifteen minutes and when you go three-nil down against any opposition you’re going to find it difficult. I thought we created a number of good chances in the latter part of the first half, and then we unfortunately conceded a goal to a bit of confusion. That’s football, those things happen. It definitely wasn’t the intensity we’ve played with in the last four (or) five games - it wasn’t a Brisbane Roar performance.” – Josh McCloughan, Brisbane Roar FC Youth coach

“Unfortunately for the Roar, Jordon’s two shots went in whereas in the last few weeks they’ve been missing, or hitting the bar or cleared off the line. Today, they just went in. It always happens during the season, sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don’t. We defended superbly, our goalkeeper barely had a shot to save and that’s what defending’s all about.” – Sam Saif, Sunshine Coast FC coach
