Souths Score Perfect 10

Souths United

Words: Callum Dick

Souths United Women continued their blistering goalscoring form on Wednesday night, comfortably accounting for UQFC Women 10-0 at University of Queensland Oval 7.

Deeanna Thompson and Terri-Amber Carlson both struck braces for the visitors while Ayesha Norrie grabbed a brace in the rout.

UQFC came out far-improved following the break but struggled to prevent the visitors from adding a further five to their half-time tally as Souths made it 19 goals in two outings.

The result keeps Souths in touch with The Gap Women heading into the bye, whilst UQFC remain in seventh ahead of their trip to the league leaders.

What They Said

“We worked really hard, we’ve run into some really good form at the moment. It’s important for us to keep winning, so we stay in touch (with The Gap FC) at the top. We’re not looking at anything more than improving and trying to get the points each week.” – Gary French, Souths United FC Women coach.

“It’s the reality of this NPL competition, one week you dish it out and the next week you’re on the end of it. There was definitely an improvement from our girls in the second half, but individually (Souths) have some exceptional players that made things very difficult for us tonight.” Rick Coghlan, UQFC Women coach.
