The Gap Women maintained their perfect record as two second-half goals secured a well-earned 3-0 win over Western Pride Women at Walton Bridge Reserve.

Zali Eason-Coutts’ early opener set Gators on course for a sixth straight victory but a stubborn Pride made the hosts wait to secure three points.

Rebecca Price doubled her side’s advantage from the penalty spot with just over 20 minutes to play before Greta Bodey scored late to continue the title holders’ unbeaten start to the season.

The result is Pride’s fifth consecutive defeat as they sit above only bottom-placed Redlands United Women on the ladder.

Key Moments

11’ – CHANCE FOR GATORS – Talitha Doro controls Jessica Dillon’s cross from the right but places her finish wide of the left upright.

13’ – GOAL FOR GATORS – Pride ‘keeper Kirsten Veeren parries a shot into the direction of Zali Eason-Coutts, who taps the ball into an open net.

43’ – CHANCE FOR GATORS – Veeren does well to push Eason-Coutts’ shot over the crossbar following Dillon’s corner.

67’ – GOAL FOR GATORS – Veeren fails to hold a corner and fouls Megan Price inside the area. Gators captain Bec Price holds her nerve and converts the resultant penalty down the middle.

82’ – CHANCE FOR GATORS – Eason-Coutts again links up with Dillon but sees a goal-bound effort pushed once more over the bar by Veeren.

83’ – GOAL FOR GATORS – Greta Bodey receives possession in space and ices the result with a shot inside the near post.

What They Said

“I thought Zali Eason-Coutts had a really good game. We have a few injuries at the moment so she filled in (as a winger) and I thought she had very good combinations with Charli McLennan out wide. I was very pleased for her to score as well and I thought she was unlucky not to have two or three goals in the end.” – Rob Askew, The Gap FC Women coach.

“Yes (Gators) are undefeated and they are a good team but we more than matched them tonight. The scoreline does not indicate how close that game was. I’m very pleased with that effort. There’s no doubt The Gap realised we’re not the easybeats everyone thinks we are and that we have been in previous seasons.” – Len Manwaring, Western Pride FC Women coach.
