Northern Fury are strengthening their regional community ties this weekend when they play a PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues match in Ingham for the second straight season.

Fury – still seeking their first points of the season – welcome seventh-placed Brisbane City to Ingham Showgrounds on Saturday night as the competition’s own regional footprint continues to grow.

Fury chairman Rabieh Krayem says visiting Ingham is reward for the town's supporters who regularly make the more than hour long journey to the team’s matches in Townsville.

“We have a very strong supporter base in Ingham and we’ve got a number of players from Ingham playing in our junior ranks,” Krayem said.

“We think it’s important we maintain that level of support. There’s a big day of activities up in Ingham and we know we will get a good crowd and Ingham football is right behind us."

“Hopefully we can continue to grow the game in that area and have more players playing for the Fury.”

Saturday night’s showpiece match is part of a full schedule of events with junior games and clinics for local children.

Ingham Football Club president Nic Rinaudo believes the matchday will be well worth the several weeks of preparation.

“It’s our chance to promote the game in the region,” Rinaudo said.

“The Fury are running some clinics before the game for the junior players which is great and keeps people interested."

“Because we’re hosting it at Ingham Showgrounds which has a larger grandstand and better lighting there’s been a bit of work involved for us. We’ve been working up to this weekend for a while now.”

Local Fury fans will be hoping for a better outcome than their side's last match at Ingham Showgrounds which saw Gold Coast City (then-named Palm Beach SC) win 3-0 in June last year.

However, Fury may not be the only side drawing on local support, with City expecting members of the town's plentiful Australian-Italian community to barrack for the team from the capital.

The match will not be the only time PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues football heads outside the major centres this year - SWQ Thunder Women take on Sunshine Coast Women in Kingaroy next weekend, while FNQ Heat head to Innisfail later in the season.
