Olympic FC Women delivered an emphatic statement in their season opener against Gold Coast City Women – recording a convincing 5-0 win at Goodwin Park.

The hosts were rarely troubled as Rebekah Horsey and Allira Jazmyn Perin established a two-goal advantage at the half, before Allira Toby and Elizabeth Doherty killed off the contest before the hour.

A late lighting failure didn’t lessen the shine of the performance as Kirsten Jamieson rounded out the result in the final minutes after the restart with a stunning free-kick.

The win is Olympic’s first over Gold Coast City in PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women’s competition after twice tasting defeat to the surfsiders in the previous incarnation as Palm Beach SC last year.

Olympic Women sit second on the table behind defending Champions The Gap FC Women after the opening round.

Key Moments

25’ – GOAL FOR OLYMPIC - Patience pays off as fluent ball movement through midfield frees up Rebekah Horsey inside the area and she makes no mistake, burying the shot low and hard from close range.

43’ – GOAL FOR OLYMPIC – A long ball from deep on the left flank finds Jazmyn Perin unmarked on the back post allowing the tall midfielder to blast her finish down the middle for a two goal half-time advantage

51’ – GOAL FOR OLYMPIC – Electric Westfield W-League winger Allira Toby burns all comers as she races down the left touchline before cutting in and blasting the ball into the top left corner from close range

53’ – GOAL FOR OLYMPIC– Natalie Tathem plays a pin-point cross just beyond the keeper from the by-line and Elizabeth Doherty goes full stretch to tap it in

85’ – POWER OUTAGE – The hosts onslaught is halted as gremlins in the wiring see the lights go dim, but it’s only a matter of minutes before the game resumes

86’ – GOAL FOR OLYMPIC – With the first kick after the stoppage, Kirsten Jamieson produces a sublime free kick from 25 yards out that bounces in off the crossbar.

What They Said

“It’s hard to tell (how we stand). If we played how we did tonight against someone like The Gap or Easts, we wouldn’t be in the contest. Without being condescending towards some of these teams there is going to be a clear gulf in class between the top six and the bottom five. When we get our best players back we will be very competitive but we still have a lot we have to improve to get to that stage.” – Phil Canham, Olympic FC Women coach

“I said at the end of the game that I was really pleased that they didn’t let their heads drop and they kept working at it. They will do well in the season because they have that sort of atttitude.“ - David Thompson, Gold Coast City FC Women coach
