Pride Add Three More Signings

Western Pride

Words: Garry McKenzie

Western Pride have bolstered their defence for the upcoming PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues campaign with the additions of Will McFarlane, Adam Endean and Doug Brown.

The trio all link up with the club for the first time for the 2016 season and comes as Pride coach Graham Harvey identifies defence as a priority for the home-and-away season.

Right fullback McFarlane, 21, joins from Gold Coast community club Coomera where he played under the mentorship of former Socceroo Craig Moore.

Harvey said McFarlane fits Pride’s recruitment strategy of signing young players with the potential to step up to the national second tier.

“He is a strong centre back with good defensive ability and will benefit from working with a good group of lads here at Pride,” Harvey said.

Defensive midfielder Endean, 19, has also been recruited from the Gold Coast – splitting last season between Coomera and Pride’s PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues rivals Palm Beach SC.

Harvey said Endean had the potential to build on his defensive abilities to cover all midfield roles.

“He’s very comfortable in possession, which is important for us in how we play. He’s strong in defence and he understands his duties.”

Brown joins Pride after a handful of appearance for reigning Brisbane Premier League Champions Peninsula Power.

“I was keen to strengthen in the back so when I knew Doug was available I went and got him,” Harvey said.

“Thankfully he was already friends with a few of the boys in the Pride squad.”

The trio are in contention to face University of Queensland FC on Saturday with Pride having lost five players to various injuries in recent weeks.

Pride have also confirmed that all-time club leading goal scorer Peter Drager will not return to the club in 2016 and has joined Brisbane Premier League club Ipswich Knights.
