City Prepare For First Hit-Out

Brisbane City FC

Words: Michael Flynn

Brisbane City fans will get their first taste of John Kosmina’s influence on the team in their first pre-season hit-out this Saturday.

City will face off against Capital League Two outfit Annerley FC in the friendly match as the seek to continue their preparations for the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2016 season.

A former Hyundai A-League coach and Socceroo as a player, Kosmina’s capture was one of the highest profile stories of 2015 in Queensland football.

However, he said this weekend’s match wasn’t about him but about his squad and getting some much needed minutes into their legs.

“It’s always about the players,” Kosmina stated.

“This weekend is basically another training session but in another format and that’s how I look at pre-season.”

“It’s about getting match condition. It’s not about a result, it’s not even about how we play, it’s about getting used to playing again.”

He said he was happy about the progress being made by the squad which features eight confirmed new additions after the club finished outside the top four in the past two seasons.

“They are starting to gel together quite well and I think we have a good balance,” Kosmina explained.

“There’s some good experience there like Greg King and Scot Coulson from the Strikers and we have Luke Pavlou and Sam Sibatuara from the Roar.”

“They give us another dimension that probably wasn’t there last year,” he concluded.

City will follow-up the friendly with matches in the BLK Silver Boot pre-season tournament over the next three weeks where they meet fellow PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland club Gold Coast City, as well as Brisbane Premier League sides Albany Creek Excelsior and Capalaba FC.
