Sharks Add Context To Rebranding

Palm Beach SC has responded to media reports about its impending name change to Gold Coast City in next year’s PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland, saying they lack “context”.
Independent media outlets reported that Sharks will rebadge as Gold Coast City as part of a rebranding exercise with the ambitious aim of participating in the Foxtel National Youth League.
A public statement on the club’s official Facebook page didn’t address the reported Foxtel National Youth League ambitions but accused media reports of lacking detail and said further information will be forthcoming this week.
The statement read: “One report, giving no context, implied Gold Coast City was replacing Palm Beach Sharks in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland. This may cause concern for those not aware of our club's longer-term history.”
“Palm Beach SC has previously played under the name Gold Coast City in the Brisbane leagues, and will continue in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland under that name,” the statement continued.
The statement explained that the club’s community teams, which compete in senior and youth competitions administered by Football Gold Coast, will retain the Palm Beach SC branding.
Football Queensland has given in principle approval for the change of name and the formation of the new entity, which will be controlled and wholly owned by Palm Beach SC.
It is anticipated that Palm Beach’s statistical and playing history in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland will carry over to the newly named entity.
