I have previously mentioned that Luke Thomas has been looking to set up a Grade 4 Referees course at Maidstone Leisure Centre. This has now been confirmed for Sunday 31st July and will be a one-day course.
I am conscious that there are people out there in Kent who would benefit from attending the course as it will help develop their refereeing skills and give them far more confidence when officiating at KCVA matches. This applies equally to those who are relatively new to refereeing, or those who have refereed over many years without ever actually taking a qualification. The game does not stand still (rules do change from time to time, of course) and it is worth the investment of time and effort to learn more about being an effective referee.
It is even more enjoyable if you can pair up with a club member so that you can help each other develop as referees – both first and second officials.
I am also aware that there are players out there in Volleyball land who would definitely benefit from attending a course, judging from some of the puzzled and plaintive looks I receive on a regular basis throughout the season (and I don’t mean as a result of a dodgy decision by me – I simply don’t make any of those, natch!).
It is actually good fun being a referee – even more so when you have a proper grasp of the fundamentals.
