NEWS: Rego Fees for Geelong Girls Gala slashed, this year expected to attract double the entrants

THE Geelong Region Women’s Football Taskforce has reduced registration fees for the second edition of the Geelong Girls Gala Football event, to be held at Myers Reserve in Bell Post Hill on Saturday March 17, which is expected to attract double the entrants 2017’s inaugural event managed to do so...

Last year the cost per team entered was $200, this year the cost for all Senior teams as well as the U14, 16 and U18 teams will be $180, while registration for the U10 and U12 teams will be $160.

The innovative pre-season event, which was staged at Lara United’s Recreation Reserve in February of this year, was founded with the aim of attracting both new and former female players to the rapidly growing sport in the Geelong region.

In 2017, the 7-a-side half pitch format featured Girls’ Under 12s, Under 15s and Open Women’s age categories and encouraged clubs, schools and other organisations to get involved in a fun based competition with the main focus being on participation and not winning at all costs.

The advisory group decided unanimously to pursue a later event date, so as to allow the new school year to kick in, as well as expand the age groups to include an U10, U12, U14, U16 and Open category.

Like its inaugural event, next year’s event will be run as a recruitment initiative. Club teams are - wherever possible – to be made up of existing players and topped up with friends that have either never played or are coming back to have another go at playing Football.

Example: If you have 10 players in your current team, split them into two groups of five players and invite friends to make two squads of 10 players. That way your club may attract 10 new players to your club for the 2017 GRFC season.

Acting on behalf of the Geelong Region Football Committee (GRFC), the female’s only event will once again be managed and administered by the Women’s Taskforce.

The Woman’s Task Force recommended a preseason GRFC Girls only Tournament to run annually to help build the female profile in the Geelong Region.
