NEWS: Dates for Game Training and Skills Training coaching courses locked in for March 2018

WITH planning intensifying for what is expected to be another record breaking season in 2018, in terms of player participation in the greater Geelong region, the dates for two important Community based coaching courses have been locked in which will take place this coming March.

The two day Game Training Certificate course will be staged on the weekend of the 3-4 March at Howard Glover Reserve in East Geelong.

Aimed at coaches who train 13-17 year old players, the Game Training Phase involves the coach’s aim beingthe development of tactical awareness, perception and decision making through a game related approach to training.

The course is conducted over 14 hours, is fully practical and provides the coach with training sessions designed to help the players apply the Functional Game Skills in a team setting using the FFA endorsed ‘1-4-3-3’ formation.

The course is conducted over 14 hours, is fully practical and deals with the development of the four Functional Game Skills: First Touch, Striking the Ball, Running with the Ball, one v one contest scenarios.  

The Skills Training Certificate course, which likewise goes for two days, will be held at the same venue on the weekend of 24-25 March.

The Skills Training phase is intended for coaches training 9-13 year old players, with the coach focussing on building a solid foundation of technical skill.

The course is conducted over 14 hours, is fully practical and provides the coach with training sessions designed to help the players develop the four functional game skills: first touch, striking the ball, running with the ball and 1 v 1.

As spots on each course are capped at about 20 participants, interested persons are urged to reserve well in advance.
