NEWS: Geelong Region Men’s Div 1 - Round 11 Preview

DRYSDALE will be aiming to cause a boilover and defeat the highly fancied competition frontrunners Barwon SC in Round 11 of the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1 at Howard Glover Reserve on Sunday.

If successful, Jason Pickles’ team will most likely jump into the Top Four with second placed Breakwater Eagles entertaining fourth placed Deakin Ducks across town at the White Eagle Club in Breakwater.

In order for that to happen, Drysdale will need to apply the shackles to the League’s leading goalscorer Adam Leather. The Barwon sharpshooter has managed to hit the back of the net on 13 occasions so far this season. Craig Cameron-Smith with 8 goals and Sean Mahon with 7 will also pose a threat to Drysdale’s hopes of causing an upset on its home turf.

Currently on 28 points, Barwon leads the Eagles by a margin of four points with third placed Surfside Waves on 17 points and the Ducks on 16 making up the leading quartet.

New club FC Leopold will be looking for its first historic win when it hosts last year’s beaten Grand Finalists Geelong Rangers at Estuary Estate on Sunday. Despite being winless after 10 rounds, the Greens have been more than competitive against top four teams in the last four rounds.

Eighth placed Barwon Heads and third placed Surfside Waves will kick-off the weekend’s round of matches when the two neighbouring sides meet under lights at Village Park on Friday night.

In the remaining Round 10 fixture, 7th placed Lara United hosts 9th placed Surf Coast at Lara Recreation Reserve on Sunday, at the earlier time of 1pm.
