NEWS: First Soccer Mums’ Deliverer course to be held in Geelong on April 9

GEELONG Soccer Club will be hosting the first Soccer Mums’ Deliverer course in Geelong on Monday April 9, prior to the rollout of the female specific football themed program in the Geelong region later this year.

Soccer Mums, an initiative of VicHealth, is proudly presented by Football Federation Victoria (FFV) and Melbourne City Football Club. It is a program designed to promote active living for women, particularly mums, in Victoria.

This is a fun, social and introductory program designed specifically for the participants to provide confidence and basic understanding of soccer.

According to FFV Project Manager Jen Willmott, who is responsible for the development and rollout of the Soccer Mums’ project, each Deliverer is tasked to tailor the program to the participants to ensure their needs are met.

“As a Deliverer, your main priority is to create a welcoming, fun and social environment where laughter is contagious and the mums are encouraged to discover football without knowing it,” explained Willmott.

“The Deliverer is the most vital part of the program, as they are the face of the program and are required to create the right environment for the program.

“The ideal Deliverer is not a coach, as the program isn’t designed to develop players, they should have some football knowledge and have a positive, welcoming and fun presence,” she added.

All clubs who run a Soccer Mums program will be fully supported by a full time FFV staff member and have the opportunity to request a deliverer or nominate a deliverer from their club.

“The Soccer Mums’ team encourages all clubs to identify a Deliverer and at least one committee member to attend the Deliverer course to learn more about the program,” urged Willmott.

“All administration for the program is coordinated by FFV, with the main role of the club to promote within their members, with promotional material supplied by FFV and allocate a space for the program to run at their club.

“If you are not sure of your clubs’ availability, don't stress let's have a conversation on how we can help you start this initiative at your club,” concluded Jen Willmott.
