NEWS: Kardinia on a roll as ‘Students’ notch 4th win in Round 17 of Women’s Div 1

KARDINIA College recorded its fourth win of the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 season on Saturday after defeating 5th placed Bell Park 4-1 at Kardinia International College in Bell Post Hill.

A hat-trick from Courtney Farrell and a goal from Stephanie Cameron helped the ‘Students’ secure the three points over the team which had defeated them in their previous two clashes this year.

After holding down the bottom spot on the ladder for most of the season, Kardinia has improved each week and has now won two games on the trot.

With just one round remaining, Bell Park is level on points with 4th placed Drysdale but have a far inferior goal difference which could prove costly as far as a finals’ berth is concerned.

Drysdale ran rampant last weekend, as the reigning league champions defeated Surf Coast at Banyul Warri Reserve 6-0.

A hat-trick from Serena Stephens and singles from Shannon Daffy and Lauren Salaviejus helped to secure the three points for Drysdale, with the sixth goal an own goal.

In the remaining Round 17 game at Myers Reserve in Bell Post Hill, Geelong Rangers and Barwon shared the spoils in a hard fought 0-0 draw.

The result didn’t affect either team as they have both cemented their position in the top four going into the final round of the season next weekend.
