NEWS: Geelong SC receives VicHealth grant to increase female participation at the club

GEELONG SC was recently successful in applying for the "VicHealth's Active Club Grants 2017-18 Round Two - Increasing Female Participation" with its initiative of "Giving Girls a Go'. The grant will provide the club’s junior girls players with training equipment and an opportunity to experience playing indoor soccer.

At last Friday night’s training session, the MiniRoos and Junior Girls (U7s to U14s) were presented with touch training balls. The girls were all excited receiving them, giving them the opportunity to take home the specialised Messi touch training balls to practice and build on their skills.

Jennifer Smith from Geelong SC stated the following:

“We are seeing increased participation of girls playing soccer across the region and as a club we are pleased to have been successful in the VicHealth grant and supporting the girls pursuing their passion playing soccer. This initiative helps us to further develop the girls’ skills and provide them the opportunity to experience soccer in the indoor environment in a fun and social setting.”

The Grant involves three parts – the equipment boost with the touch training balls, money to hire indoor training facilities for the girls and funds to provide coaching instruction courses for the club’s budding female coaches

After the presentation, the MiniRoos girls came together at the clubhouse from where they supported the U14s Girls in their Round 13 match.

Giving Girls a Go is about providing increased opportunities for female participation in Soccer through a series of initiatives aimed to both attract new female members and help retain existing members.
