NEWS: Great turnout for All Abilities Football League registration day at Steampacket Gardens

AN IMMENSELY successful Come And Try/Registrations’ Day for the proposed new Geelong All Abilities Football League was held last Saturday morning in beautifully sunny conditions at the Steampacket Gardens on the Waterfront.

The event was a joint collaboration between LeisureNetworks, GenU (formerly Karingal), Football Federation Victoria’s All Abilities Officer Sharon Wong and the FFV Geelong Region office staff, Club Ambassadors Foddy Kyprian and Tonci Prusac.

The event, which included a registration booth, small sided games and a giveaways stand by one of the main sponsors of the new competition the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), acted as a recruitment drive for the proposed new Geelong All Abilities League, which is expected to start in June or July.

The eight clubs who have expressed an interest in fielding teams in an inaugural Geelong All Abilities League include: Barwon, Bell Park, Corio Bay, Drysdale, Geelong Rangers, Lara, Surf Coast and Surfside Waves.

The new competition will initially be a seniors’ league for anyone aged 14 years and up and has any form of disability. However, provision will be made for forming a separate Juniors’ competition should there be enough interest.

It would not be gender specific and is expected to be staged on Saturday mornings, when football grounds around the region would be most accessible.

If you know of someone with a disability who is keen to get out and give football a go in 2018, or simply to obtain more information about the league, call either Glen Snowden (GenU) on 0429 978 712 or Tim Downes (LeisureNetworks) on 5224 9936.
