NEWS: Leisure Networks can help Geelong Region football clubs increase their female participation

LEISURE Networks, a Geelong based not for profit community assistance organisation, recently created a Gender Equity Planning Process to support local sporting clubs build an environment safe and inviting for both young girls and women to participate in sport, while Sport and Recreation Victoria recently opened a grant round to support this work.

Leisure Networks provides a range of programs which help people to connect with their community. This may be through skill building and social respite programs for people with a disability, mainstream school holiday programs, older adult exercise and social programs and support for community sport and recreation providers.

Category 3: Club Operational Capacity:

Grants up to $5000 to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of clubs through strategic planning or, to increase community participation through accessible sport and active recreation opportunities.

  • Gender Equity Planning:
    - Review current documents, develop a club profile – work with 1-2 COM
    - Member stakeholder survey, develop, analyse, report
    - Committee Workshop
                            -  Look at the current situation         
                       - what’s going well/what needs improvement
    -  Gender Equity club assessment
    -  Agree to 3-5 priority areas to act upon
    -  Set some realistic goals for each of the areas – 1,2,3 years
    Establish implementation strategies
    -  Plan member, partner, stakeholder session

Write up draft scaffold planning document

Distribute for feedback

  • Member / partners / stakeholder session

-  Present the priorities set by the committee

-  Develop 12 month action plan – actions, who, by, resources, support required

  • Leisure Networks to draft the plan and circulate for initial feedback.
  • Meet with the Committee re: consolidating action plan, implementation plan, completion of action plan, communication strategy.
