The League’s leading goalscorer, Adam Leather, brought his season’s tally to 13 goals as he and Ashley Dafter netted one apiece for the table toppers at Grovedale Reserve on Sunday. The scorer of the Barwon Heads goal was not submitted.

Second placed Breakwater Eagles, meanwhile, sounded out an ominous warning to the competition frontrunners by brutally annihilating second last placed Surf Coast FC 11-0 at Banyul Warri Reserve.

No less than three players secured hat-tricks. Brandon Duthie and Chris Appleford have now both scored nine goals for the season, while Cailen Lee was the other hat-trick hero for the Eagles. Nicholas Clissold contributed to the one side affair with a brace.

On Friday night, Deakin Ducks hosted Drysdale SC at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus to kickstart the weekend’s round of matches. The game was virtually over at half time with Christopher Bart and Jonothon Heseltine finding the back of the net for the visitors, Rhys Clapp added to the Ducks’ woes with a second half goal to secure a 3-0 win for the in-form Drysdale outfit.

In the other game, Geelong Rangers defeated Lara United 3-1 in the ‘Northern Derby’ at Myers Reserve on Sunday. Ben Noble scored two to take his season’s tally to nine goals, while Zac Harry netted the third for the Dark Blues. The scorer of the Lara goal was not submitted.

Surfside Waves will host FC Leopold in the catch-up round fixture this coming Friday night at Shell Road Reserve in Ocean Grove. The action kicks-off at 7:30pm.

After 10 rounds, Barwon leads the table with 28 points, four ahead of Breakwater Eagles with Deakin Ducks in third spot on 16 points. Drysdales make up the top four with 15 points, while 5th placed Surfside Waves have accumulated 14 points but have a game in hand.
