NEWS: Walking Soccer program finds new home at BVAC
WALKING Soccer made its long awaited return for the new season last Monday night with a new venue, but the same old loveable faces. The Geelong program has re-established itself at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre (BVAC) after some short seasons at the Leisuretime Centre and Geelong Waterfront's Steampacket Gardens.
The program is again led by Geoff Briggs from the Drysdale Soccer Club and will run weekly on Monday nights from 6-7pm. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate in this social form of the game, which is more inclusive and less stressful on the body than any other form of football.
“Leisure Networks is excited to be a partner in assisting Walking Soccer Geelong in 2017. This program is unique to any other and has great social and physical health benefits. We welcome everyone to come down for a casual kick,” said Leisure Networks’ Program Co-ordinator Michael Condy.
Football Federation Victoria’s Zone Development Officer for the wider Geelong region Foddy Kyprian was an interested onlooker on Monday night, when he was asked by one of the participants if he wanted to ‘have a run’.
Renowned widely for his cheeky nature, Kyprian replied with: “no, I’ll have a walk instead! In all seriousness, however, I had a great time breaking into a walk. Kicking a ball is all that counts and this program provides an opportunity for absolutely anyone to come and have a kick in a social environment,” he added.
