NEWS: Preview of the GRFC Women’s Division One Round 3 action

By: Lorcan MATHEWS

SURFSIDE Waves SC under head coach Gina Murphy will kick off the GRFC Women’s Division 1 Round 3 action tonight when they welcome Barwon SC under lights tonight at its Shell Road Reserve complex.

Surfside’s Alexis Pearson (pictured in action last year) will once more be a major goal scoring trump card for the Waves, as she registered nine goals throughout the 2016 league season.

The Waves won’t have it all their way, however, with Alyse Cook in red hot form for Barwon, having scored two goals in two appearances thus far in this campaign for the visitors. Kick-off is at 7:30pm.

Kardinia International College v Surf Coast FC

TIME/DATE: 1:00 PM / SAT 6 MAY

LOCATION: KARDINIA COLLEGE

KARDINIA International College, under the management of Ivan Kovacev, welcomes top of the table Surf Coast FC to Kardinia College on Saturday afternoon, in what will most definitely prove to be a tough fixture for Kovacev’s young squad.

Surf Coast has started the season on fire under the care of Mariela Pocklington, registering two wins from their opening fixtures while also only allowing a measly two goals past their defensive back four.

Deakin Ducks FC v Barwon Heads SC

TIME/DATE: 3:00 PM / SAT 6 MAY

LOCATION: DEAKIN UNIVERSITY - TOP FIELD

AFTER running away with the Division One league title in 2016 and in the process blitzing the competition, the Deakin Ducks are hoping to repeat their achievement this year.

On Saturday, the Ducks welcome Barwon Heads SC to Deakin University, in a daunting away trip for the Hammerheads. Graham Semple’s well drilled Ducks are once more free-scoring, registering ten goals throughout their opening two fixtures, and this will most definitely be a giant test for Ben Kelly’s Hammerheads squad depth.

Drysdale SC v Geelong SC

TIME/DATE: 3:00 PM / SAT 6 MAY

LOCATION: HOWARD GLOVER RESERVE

AN enormous test lies in wait for Lube Jovanovski’s Geelong SC as the Lions travel to Howard Glover Reserve to tackle an undefeated Drysdale SC under Craig Riley’s management.

A defensive stand needs to be taken from Jovanovski’s Geelong squad, as they are shipping goals, eleven in their past two fixtures.
