NEWS: Expanded GRFC Men’s Masters competition Round 1 Preview

THE expanded GRFC Men’s Masters’ League for 2017 kicks off in earnest on Friday night April 21, as Barwon will play host to Corio at Grovedale Reserve, while Surfside Waves will face Geelong in a fixture that pits the two newly formed teams against each other in the opening round of the season.

Grand-Final runners up Bell Park host Barwon Heads at Bell Park Sports Club on the Sunday afternoon 23rd of April. Bell Park finished on top of the table at the close of the regular season and will be looking to improve on a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to eventual champions Drysdale SC in the Final.
Titleholders Drysdale will be looking to begin its campaign strongly away to new side Breakwater Eagles in the final fixture of Round One, with the league growing from a six side competition in its inaugural season in 2016 to an expanded eight-team league this year.
Unfortunately Elcho Park Cardinals, which included ex-Socceroo Josip Skoko and former North Geelong Warriors senior team captain Mijo Trupkovic in its ranks last year, will not be fielding a team in the Masters’ competition this season.
