NEWS: Which local club is most interested in the future of football in the Geelong region?

JUDGING by the latest RSVPs to the upcoming Public Meeting to launch the Geelong Regional Football Committee’s DRAFT Strategic Plan, Geelong Rangers is the Geelong club that is most interested in the future direction that the sport of football is taking!

The Strategic Development Plan is a work in progress with the GRFC Leadership team having developed a working Blueprint for the Plan. It is now seeking input from member clubs to take it to the next stage.

All Geelong region clubs have been invited to come and have their say at a special Public Meeting on Monday 18th July at the Karingal Hub in East Geelong to launch the first DRAFT of the very important document addressing the future direction of football in Geelong.

At last count, Rangers had confirmed it would be sending eight members to the Meeting. They include officials, coaches, players, members and supporters of the Bell Post Hill based club.

Next on the standings of ‘most interested’ clubs are Women’s NPL outfit Galaxy United and local GRFC club Breakwater Eagles with five confirmed delegates apiece. NPL club North Geelong Warriors – along with their community club affiliate Elcho Park Cardinals - holds down 4th spot with four delegates, while in 5th place we have Lara United with two delegates who have registered their intent to attend the meeting.

According to GRFC Chairperson Jo Plummer, the GRFC Leadership team has been working collaboratively with Football Federation Victoria (FFV) towards a DRAFT Regional Football Plan for the benefit of the whole community.

“The GRFC is maturing in the way we work together with our fellow clubs and key community stakeholders such as local councils, government, business and our governing football bodies,” explained Plummer.

“To this end, we have had initial discussions, with the view to further engage these critical key stakeholders moving forward. The reception to date has been tremendous!

“Before taking this plan further, it is imperative that our past, present and future extended Football Family, have their say and provide further thinking and ideas to be considered. Therefore, delegates, presidents, administrators and coaches alike…..you are all welcome to attend this meeting!”

It is expected that this event will be attended by Kimon Taliadoros, the President of FFV and at least one other FFV Board member.

“No doubt, they will also be generous enough to share their views on the current ‘state of play’ at a State and National level. A number of other community and business leaders have also agreed to come along to hear and consider your ideas,” added Plummer.

“Our goal is to collectively develop with all key stakeholders, a comprehensive Regional Football Plan that identifies and prioritises our needs, and positions our region to maximise the social and economic opportunities of the future.”
