NEWS: Barwon Heads SC celebrates new facilities at Village Park

LAST Friday night (31st of July), the Barwon Heads Soccer Club held a very special ‘Thank you’ event, at which it celebrated the installation of a new pitch and lighting facilities at its magnificent Village Park complex.

According to club spokeswoman and secretary, Sal Bentley, the Committee of the Barwon Heads Soccer Club along with all the players and their families, had invited their sponsors and other people involved to join them in the celebration

“Without the hard work and dedication of a group of very special local people, this would not be have been possible for the Barwon Heads Soccer Club,” explained Bentley, then added, “these lights will provide many years of football enjoyment to the Barwon Heads community.”

The evening started with the Hammerheads’ Under 12s playing Geelong SC under lights in the early game, followed by the main game, the Men’s Division Two clash between Barwon Heads and close neighbours Bellarine Sharks.

“We had the pleasure of having Uncle Dave Tournier from the Wathaurong Community do the ceremonial Welcome to Country as well as Councillor Andy Richards, Sarah Henderson Federal Member for Corangamite and Ben Storey Coordinator of Construction for COGG (City of Greater Geelong) join us for dinner along with a group of our sponsors,” said Bentley.

“It was a pleasure for us to host the event to thank our sponsors and the people involved in helping our club get our new pitch and lights up and running,” she added.

“The funds we received included $100,000 from the state government through the 'strengthening the world game' State grant application and $400,000 from the Geelong City Council, thanks largely to Andy Richards.

“Overall, the evening was a huge success and a great night was had by all,” concluded Sal Bentley, the secretary of the Barwon Heads Soccer Club.
