Competition Rules & By-Laws

This document is accurate of October, 2019.

As part of the journey, the competition rules have been updated and brought into line, so that rules are common across Juniors and Seniors.

Attached is a copy of the rules, most of which are the common practises that we have been following for many years.

All Team Delegates are asked to sign the acknowledgement document and bring with them to their first game, to indicate that each team has received a copy. I will endeavour to also send a copy to all players, but please feel free to share this email and the attachments across your social groups. The rules update feature a clearer understanding of acceptable playing uniform and uniform penalties. Please ensure that your teams understand the uniform requirements. Uniform penalties will be enforced from Week 3, with points allocated at half-time by the referees. For Juniors, the wearing of rep shorts is a uniform penalty. For Juniors, only black shorts are acceptable.

There is also a new condition on repeated failures by Tuesday night teams to provide duty. After the third infraction, teams will be required to attend a scorebench education session before being allowed to take to the court again. Duty requires teams to provide at least two people for score the game, as well as provide a referee or two if requested.

With the appointment of Tom Marsh as Referee Program Manager and Court Controller, the Board of SBA are expecting the standard of refereeing to improve and for a better playing experience. Tom is working with the existing pool of referees to ensure that we have enough referees to cover games, but in the event that there are not enough to be rostered, then duty teams on Tuesday night will be required to fill any gaps from their team.

All players need to be made aware that in addition to SBA Disciplinary procedures, Shoalhaven City Council, as the facility owner, has a zero tolerance towards poor behaviour towards players, officials or SCC staff which can result in persons being removed from the facility or banned from the facility. This is in addition to any consequences that may be imposed from SBA. SBA has no control over SCC decisions in this regard, so please make sure that all participants are aware of this.

Other than the first game of the day, iPads to sign on will be on court. Referees will ensure that these are ready to start the game. Games will start as close to the designated time as possible, whether the scorebench is ready or the teams are ready.

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
