QLD AFL Masters have just completed the first clean sweep of the Div1 age groups at the Gold Coast National Masters Carnival.
Strong representation in all divisions saw QLD enter 14 teams with 6 teams entered in the Marquee 35/40 age group. Special thanks go to Troy Moncur, Dean Ryan, Dean Wallington and Nick Cappelleri for their efforts in fielding teams which took on and beat the traditional powerhouse States of Vic Metro and Tasmania. This is only QLD‘s second win in the Div1 age group since the inception of Superules / Masters Footy and the first since 2000 in Div2.
The 45 Div1 win is our 3rd win in 6 years in this Division whilst the 50 Div1 is our first ever win in this Division which has been dominated by Vic Metro. Similarly the 55 Div1 has been dominated by Vic Metro until this Carnival and the 60 Div1 team have taken that title off Vic Metro as well.
Congratulations go to our All Australian Players and Coaches across the Divisions. Reward for effort and well deserved.

Thank you to all players, supporters and volunteers who attended the Carnival and special mention to Derek and his Event team of Tank Neilsen and Amanda Hamilton for putting the week together. Thanks also to my hard working Committee of Paul Magher, Arnold Keuker and Dave Sullivan for the many hours of behind the scenes work, especially Arnold for the late nights registering players. Look forward to Geelong where we can build on the success of this year.
Dates for Geelong are Round 1 matches Monday the 2nd of October, Round 2 Wednesday the 4th and Round 3 Friday the 6th or Saturday the 7th depending on results. Presentation Night is the 7th. Travel on the Sunday should not be peak although this is the start of Victorian School Holidays.
Regards Burchie
