Maurie Soars from Townsville has been announced as the MAFQ 2014 Superman Of The Year.
In 2013 Mozza won the AFL QLD Senior volunteer of the year. In 2014, he turned his efforts to Masters and took over from long term club stalwart and previous Superman Luke Chapman.
He has put considerable time and effort into growing the number of Townsville members through constant communication of AFL Masters events, encouraging participation in training and playing, encouraging support of both junior and senior AFL clubs to better integrate AFL Masters, fostering community support and encouraging the help of AFL Masters members when it was most needed.
He has also put a great deal of effort into increasing the media exposure of AFL Masters in Townsville which has helped grow awareness and player numbers. Townsville now has the largest membership of any AFL Masters club in QLD and also provided the greatest number of carnival players in Adelaide.
In a glittering ceremony at the Marion Hotel in Adelaide, 2013 Superman Paul Alf Magher presented Maurie with his award. In true style, Mozza celebrated by thanking his child bride Denise while doing a one handed topless push up wearing nothing but Superman undies. You gotta love footy!!
Congratulations big fella on a well deserved award. Mozza is already planning for 2015 and we will no doubt see another very large Townsville contingent in Tasmania.
