Arkansas Star and Dunk Machine Take Program to Oenpelli

Former Arkansas Basketball Star Buster Perkins and Hobart Charger, Deba George (pictured) have capped off an exciting week in the town of Oenpelli in the Northern Territory.

Perkins and George facilitated sessions at Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) School situated in Arnhem Land.

The week-long program covered topics such as nutrition, goal setting, the effects of alcohol and the effects of smoking.

Deba George:

“It was a great week, and to interact with the youth out in a remote place like Oenpelli not only benefits them but us as facilitators of Hoops 4 Health too. We tried to use our positive energy to provide a program that we hope gives the young people skills that they can use on the court and off it as well.”

George has played in the National Basketball League and currently plays with the Hobart Chargers in the South Eastern Australian Basketball League also acknowledged the work of the Role Models Program who were instrumental in setting up the Hoops 4 Health Program in Oenpelli in particular, Awhina Matthews.

Over eighty students participated in the Hoops 4 Health Sessions over the past week.
