Dunk Machine In Darwin

HALLOWEEN WITH THE DUNKING MACHINE

Hoops 4 Health Aboriginal Corporation will host the Halloween Moonlight 3 on 3 Basketball Challenge on Thursday 31st October. The Challenge will promote the “Live Longer” message directed at young people in Darwin and surrounding areas.

Aside from being a 3 on 3 basketball challenge, there will be opportunities for people to have health checks, listen to music from MC Pumba and have an opportunity to ride the recently launched bike smoothies from the City of Darwin’s Healthy Communities Program.

Former National Basketball League Player Deba George will be on hand to promote the Hoops 4 Health message and give some tips on living healthy. At the Moonlight Challenge last year, George amazed the crowd with his athletic ability with the highlight being when he dunked over local basketballer Keisha Tinley in a slam-dunk exhibition.

Another unique aspect of the Moonlight 3 on 3 Challenge will be the input from young people attending the Malak Re-engagement Centre who have helped manage and coordinate the event. They have participated in weekly sessions called “Getting Jiggy With Hoops” and have learnt valuable lessons on how to run and promote sports and community events. Since the start of the year they have also been participating in health and wellbeing activities with fitness gurus at the Malak Re-engagement Centre, Billy Johnstone and Paddy Stephenson.

If you would like to register your team for the Moonlight 3 on 3 Challenge, be at the Malak Community Basketball Half Court (opposite Malak Shopping Centre) at 4pm on Thursday 31st October. The event is FREE!!
