Preparations for the new football season are in full swing, with Gippsland Umpires Association finalising its coaching panel for 2015.
Brett Marriott and Davyd Reid have been re-appointed as goal and boundary umpire coaches respectively, while Paul Vaughan, who returned to coaching last year, will continue as field umpire coach for a second season.
Paul Osborn has been appointed to the newly-created role of umpiring manager and Michael Talbot remains selection co-ordinator.
GUA president Chris Behrendorff said the association was fortunate to have a high quality coaching panel at its disposal to help the development of umpires of all levels.
‘‘Paul is very experienced and came back to us last year and the other two re-interviewed for their positions, among other applicants, and interviewed very well,’’ Behrendorff said.
‘‘Brett has completed his level one coaching and Davyd has been coaching for about five years and is looking to do his level two coaching this year.’’
Behrendorff said GUA was always on the lookout for new umpires and was still seeking expressions of interest for a development coach, but pre-season numbers had been very encouraging.
‘‘We’ve had a couple of newbies and lots of returning umpires,’’ Behrendorff said.
‘‘Last Monday we had 24 on the track, which is good considering we haven’t actually officially started yet.’’
Training is held Monday and Wednesday nights at Bellbird Park, Drouin, from 6pm, with the first official session for 2015 on Wednesday night.
