TRFM Gippsland League is pleased to announce the first two nominees for the AGA Netball Rookie of the Year Award.
Now in its second year, the AGA Rookie of the Year Award recognises rising stars of our league, with monthly nominees going into the running for the overall award at the end of the year.
April nomination – Chiara Mulqueen (Warragul)
Chiara Mulqueen is a dedicated young netballer who is always trying to better herself on the netball court.
The 16-year-old works tirelessly in goal attack and has shown she can confidently step up to senior ranks.
Her recent form earned her a last minute call-up to the West Gippsland League representative team for last month’s Metricon Intraleague Championships clash and she was also part of the league’s 17-and-under team at the Netball Victoria Association Championships last weekend.
Chiara earned her A-grade stripes by proving herself in the Warragul B-grade side and continues to improve her goaling accuracy and work inside the ring.
May nomination – Casey Sherriff (Morwell)
Casey is a dynamic young player, who returned to Morwell after a stint in the Mid Gippsland Netball Association with Yinnar.
This year she represented the league in the Regional Victoria Netball League team that won the 19-and-under competition.Casey started her netball career in the TRFM Gippsland League’s 13-and-under competition and has returned to the major league to take on senior netball as a new challenge.
Casey is also a very talented junior basketball player having represented Victoria Country.
Her athleticism is difficult to fault and her decision-making belies her 18 years.
Casey has brought her enthusiasm to the A-grade group and no doubt has a bright future in the game.
