With
a month remaining in the 2009 home and away season, both Gol Gol and Euston
will be determined to win not only their vital clash at Carramar Drive, but also New South Wales bragging honours in
Round 16 of the Millewa Football League.
Both sides will have their tails up after
fantastic wins last week, and both will be hoping to continue their recent good
form in the lead up to the finals.
The Hawks in particular were extremely
impressive last week, knocking over a previously unbeaten Bambill side in
convincing fashion. However, they still sit behind the Saints in second
position, and cannot afford to let all their good work go to waste today.
The Bombers on the other hand scored a gutsy
win against fellow finals contender Meringur last week, and will be hoping to
reverse the result from the last time these two sides met back in Round 9.
This will be a fast paced encounter, and the
talent both clubs possess in their respective forward lines is sure to create a
scoring shootout to enthral the fans. But at their home ground, the Hawks
should extend their winning run to 6 games in a row with a win over the
Bombers.
After suffering their first loss of the year
last round, Bambill will be looking to bounce back against a Cardross side up
and about after last week’s fantastic win against Werrimull.
The Saints were totally out played in all
facets of the game last week against Gol Gol, and will be hoping the return of
some key players into the fold will see them regain the devastating form we all
know they are capable of.
As for the Lions, their second half of the year
has been much more consistent than the first half, and last week’s performance
against the Pies is an indication of that. One problem that Cardross have is
their lack of depth in the squad, and they will need a few more contributors to
step up if they are to trouble Bambill this afternoon.
There is no doubt Cardross fancy themselves of
ruffling the feathers of a few teams in the run to the finals, but they will
need to be at their absolute best if they are to come close to a Bambill side
on the rebound today.
The final game of the round sees Nangiloc take
on Werrimull in a do or die clash at Nangiloc Reserve.
Werrimull have really struggled in recent weeks
and look destined to claim the wooden spoon, after some impressive mid season
performances may have indicated otherwise. The Pies need a win here to keep in
touch with Cardross, and will be hoping to haul themselves off the bottom
before the end of the home and away season.
Nangiloc on the other hand need a win here to
keep themselves alive in the race for the finals series, and a convincing win
here could go a long way to improving their chances of jumping over Meringur
and claiming 4th spot.
This encounter may seem like just another match
late in the season, but the truth is there is more to play for than that, and
with the Demons needing a convincing win to keep in touch with the top 4, their
determination to do so should see them claim the chocolates this afternoon.
